Keeping Young Feet On The Right Path

We know that early detection and intervention of childhood foot and gait problems is important, but how do we know when it's time to see a podiatrist?

Here are some of the signs and symptoms to look for, that could be telling you that extra care and assessment is needed:

Pain or Discomfort: Persistent pain or discomfort in the feet, ankles, or legs can significantly impact a child's ability to join in on activities. If your child is complaining of pain after school or sports, can be seen regularly rubbing their legs, or has an aversion to walking or running, it's time for an assessment.

Abnormal Gait Patterns: If you notice the child has an unusual walking or running pattern, it could be indicative of an underlying foot or gait problem. This includes toe-walking, tripping over their own feet, 'knock knees', and 'Pigeon toes'.

Sports-Related Injuries: Active children involved in sports activities are more prone to foot and ankle injuries. Our podiatrists can provide expert advice on injury prevention, recommend appropriate footwear, and offer specialized treatment options for sports-related injuries.

Uneven shoe wear: Abnormal wear patterns on shoes can be an indication that their gait style may be compensating for an underlying problem.
